BUT HERE'S THE THING...
My journey into supporting the LGBTQ+ community began when my daughter's friend identified as transgender. As a therapist, I recognized the importance of supporting his identity, especially when his father did not. This made me reflect on how I would feel if my own child identified as transgender.
Not long after, my own daughter came out as transgender, and several years later, my son came out as gay.
This personal experience fueled my passion for creating a safe space for individuals who were struggling with mental health issues directly tied to their identities, and who often felt uncomfortable sharing their experiences with others who hadn’t walked the same path.
Over time, I became more involved in advocacy work and came to deeply understand that this is an underserved yet incredibly deserving community. Because this work is so personal to me, and because I’m directly connected to the community, I believe it makes me a better clinician, able to offer a unique, compassionate perspective.
